How to Analyze WhatsApp Group Data

For work or for fun, WhatsApp group analytics and stats can reveal incredible insights – and it’s easier that you’d think.

Who talks the most? How many members are actually active? When is the best time to post? What are the trends and stats? With the right approach, you can reveal quite a few insights from all that “hidden” info.

WHAMetrics to the rescue

While WhatsApp itself does not show that information, it’s actually super easy to find out using a service called WHAMetrics. You just sign in on WHAMetrics.com, add your group (or multiple groups), and away we go. No need to install anything, no credit cards, no accounts.

Let’s see what we can find out.

Where are the members from?

Once you add the group in WHAMetrics, you’ll immediately see a geographical breakdown of the members, by country. Who knows, maybe you have someone from Antarctica there?

How active is the group?

Having 1000 members in the group does not always mean they actually read it. WHAMetrics will tell you how alive that group is: how many members actually view the messages? How many have posted something in the past month? Or reacted to something?

Who are the most active members?

In a large enough group, some members will be much more engaged than the rest. If you are running a group for a cause or a business, these users are your champions – and knowing who they are allows you to reach out to them personally, and take their engagement to the next level (be it volunteering for the cause, or making a purchase from your business).

Who are the most engaged members?

In many WhatsApp groups, members cannot write anything – but they can react to posts. Those that do, are likely the more engaged users of the group. WHAMetrics allows you to find which users react to your posts the most, so that you can then reach out to them same as above.

Growth trend

How fast is the group growing over time? A group size graph will show you the growth trend, and whether there are any standout dates when group size suddenly spiked.

Best times to post

What are the busiest hours in the group? What are the busiest days of the week? You can find that out on the post times / days heat graphs.

Analyzing multiple WhatsApp group

What if you have multiple WhatsApp group that are functionally the same audience? (e.g. “Fans Group 8”)

These groups are not actually distinct; they are only separate because of WhatsApp group size limitations. It would make sense to treat them as one big “meta-group” – and WHAMetrics can do just that.

Simply select the groups that you want to analyze as a single unit, and WHAMetrics will show you the stats for all of them at once.

Ever wondered how many unique WhatsApp members you actually have in total? Or what the trendsĀ  are across all of your groups? How about getting a list of the most engaged users across all of your groups? WHAMetrics will show you the answers.
