How to Archive a WhatsApp Community

Tried to archive a Community on WhatsApp, and can’t find a way to do it? This tutorial will show you how (there’s a trick to it!)

If you try to archive a WhatsApp community, you’ll quickly find that you just can’t to seem to get WhatsApp to do it. There is no “archive” button, and you cannot select a Community with a long press, like you can with a regular group.  In fact, as of writing this article, there is no way to send a WhatsApp community to archive on your phone – and it looks like the only option is to leave it.

Fortunately, there is a trick that allows you to archive a WhatsApp community anyway. You just have to do it from WhatsApp Desktop.

Launching WhatsApp Desktop

  1. Download and install WhatsApp Desktop from www.whatsapp.com/download
  2. Open WhatsApp Desktop. You will see a QR code on the screen.
  3. On your phone, open WhatsApp, and tap the “three dots” menu on top right
  4. Select “Linked Devices”
  5. WhatsApp will use the camera to scan for a QR code. Point your phone at the QR code shown on your computer.
  6. Once the QR code is scanned, your WhatsApp account will show up on the computer.

Now, let’s archive that community!

How to archive a WhatsApp community

  1. In WhatsApp Desktop, locate the Community that you want to archive
  2. Select the Community
  3. Use the “Archive” icon on top right

That’s it!

The Community is now in Archive, and not only on WhatsApp Desktop – on your phone as well!
